Storage

A craft corner you can clear away

Make starting and stopping part of the project.

Choose the working area

Think about how much room the actual task needs. A small hand-sewing job may fit on a tray; measuring and cutting need a suitable supported surface. Leave enough space to see the work and avoid balancing tools at an edge.

Separate active and stored

Keep the current project in one container and return the rest to labelled storage. Use a separate place for needles, scissors and small parts. Keep manufacturer instructions with tools and supplies that need them.

Create a stopping note

At the end of a session, write where you stopped and what happens next. Put loose tools away and gather offcuts before returning the room to its usual use. This can make the next start more inviting.

Review the system after a project

Move frequently used items where you naturally reach for them. Reduce categories that are difficult to maintain and keep one small space for undecided supplies. Organisation should help you make, not become another unfinished craft.
